Just off of the Delta View Trail at this Arkansas State Park.
This is my first cache, placed in the State Park near the town
where I grew up. My Home Turf - the ecological environment I'm most
familiar with. Cane Creek State Park rides the line between the
delta and the woodlands. It makes for an interesting mix of
wildlife. Make sure to stop at the Visitor's Center and see the
alligators, snake, tarantula, and other displays.
The cache is in a plastic "waterproof & airproof"
rubbermaidesque container. It contains some small toys: a wooden
snake, big rubber insects, whistles, lucite rings, pirate gold
marked with my "P", and a couple of Spongebobs. There's also a LCD
light keychain from Lake Ouachita. Please sign the logbook; there
should be pencils there as well. Hopefully I'll be able to add a TB
and some more grown-up trinkets later.
While placing it we passed tons of muscadine vines loaded with
unripe fruit. There was surprisingly little poison ivy. Snakes do
inhabit the area, but the only one we saw was at the Visitor's
Center. We saw a spike whitetail who was not very afraid of us, and
at least three bunnies. Down at the fishing pier we saw geese and
crappies swimming in the water lillies.
Please CITO! The parks love us for it and will always welcome us
back.
Many thanks to the Arkansas State Parks, Cane Creek's PASC Roxie
Brockman and Superintendant Mike Wilson, and as many more to my
Runescape buddies David and Bradley for going with me to place the
cache!
