Geocache Description:

This cache is located just next to the public footpath between Grewelthorpe and Kirkby Malzeard, near Ripon in North Yorkshire.

The cache site is about half a mile south of the centre of Grewelthorpe village, where it is possible to park your car, and involves a pleasant walk along a little-used right of way over several stiles and through fields. Grewelthorpe has a pretty duckpond and a decent pub, and is near to the Dales town of Masham, home of the Theakstons and Black Sheep Breweries.

Walking south out of Grewelthorpe the road rises through some trees and at the top of the small rise there are some stone steps up to a stile. Cross over here and follow the edges of the field to the opposite corner. Cross the stile at the farm sheds and carry on south along the field edge to third stile. Please be careful as this was a little rickety when last visited. Once over this, continue along the right hand hedge to where you will see another stile. The cache is hidden near this stile, but not over it.

Once you have found the cache you might like to follow the footpath to Kirkby Malzeard, another mile or so away.

Unless you come here in the very depths of winter you should see plenty of sheep on your walk. Here are a few of the newborn lambs from the spring of 2008.



Please make sure you hide the cache exactly as you found it.

This cache is placed with kind permission of the farmer, so please follow the country code at all times. You won't be able to access the cache site via the farm track and the caravan site, and neither should you park in the entrance to the farm itself, as tractors need to turn here.
