NOTE: THE LISTED COORDINATES ARE NOT THE
COORDINATES OF THE CACHE.
They take you to Cerro Coso College, Ridgecrest’s community
college, which is about 4 miles to the south of the cache. Enjoy
the grounds and several trails and caches in the immediate area.
The coordinates will take you to visit Judy. Judy will give you two
numbers. Remember the larger number; you’ll need it to find
the final cache coordinates.
When you’re driving down the hill, be
sure to look at the vista before you. To the west are the great
Sierra Nevada mountains, which are truly
spectacular further north. The lower mountains to the east are the
Argus and Slate Ranges, with the Panamint Mountains beyond, which separate the
Indian Wells, Searles and Owens Valleys
from Death Valley to the east.
The cache is located just next to the Maturango Museum. The
museum was founded in 1962 and highlights this part of the Mojave
Desert’s geology, minerals, plants, animals, indigenous
people, and the impact of mining and the local Navy base, China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station. There is even an
optical illusion of a saber-tooth cat head. Gardens devoted to
native, local plants are adorned with 6-foot high steel sculptures
which were inspired by the local petroglyphs in the area, and a state-of-the-art
telescope is available for stargazers.
The Visitors’ Centers for Death Valley
and the Northern Mojave are located in the lobby.
Museum Hours: Daily 10:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. (closed major holidays). The museum does not have to be
open to find the cache.
The cache is a small lock-n-lock Tupperware
container. This is the third replacement, so please cover
it well after you find it!
