Glead All Over Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

mikeswalks: Since the last finder 'moved it slightly to another multi trunk tree' I haven't been able to find it (new co-ordinates would have been good :-) so I have no option but to archive it

Geocache Description:

An easy to find cache in post-industrial Landcape. May involve steep paths

Here's a conundrum - Glead Wood appears on the 1849 Ordnance Survey map, yet none of the trees here are anything like that age, and I'm fairly certain that 30 years ago, the area consisted of a couple of slag heaps with small saplings growing on them.

Slag heaps or not, you do not have to look far from your feet to find coal lying around, nor should you need to look far from your feet to find the cache when you arrive

Park at N 53°31.024 W 002°40.407 or N 53°31.111 W 002°40.700. If you park at the first of those, make sure you can use backtrack to get off the 'hill' at the right place

Glead Wood supports a range of bird and wildlife, and there are signs of its' industrial heritage if you know what you are looking at. It repays a wander round, but beware that the paths can be steep and loose in places. I would not recommend it after heavy rain or in the dark.

If you do or don't find it, I should hear your shouts of joy or despair - I reckon it's about 300m away as the crow flies. Have fun, and welcome to somewhere you've never been before
