Welcome to another trail in the Yanahli Wildlife Management Area.
This trail was created as part of an Eagle Scout project, by Nic
Haynes of Troop 103. The trail leads to the Cannon Bend overlook
through a half mile of beautiful forest land.
Cannon Bend was not named for artillery, but for people who
lived in the area. However, during the Civil War, Nathan Bedford
Forrest and his cavalry crossed the Duck River at Owen's Ford which
is about three miles upstream. The rest of the Confederate Army,
under Hood, crossed at Davis Ford (GCPAB7) on November 25, 1864,
and proceeded northward on McClutcheon's Trace to the blunder at
Spring Hill which led to the defeat at the Battle of Franklin.
Jackson Knob and Loftin Hill, which can be seen from this point,
were used as lookout points for scouts from both armies.
The cache is hidden in a camoed lock n' lock about one hundred
and fifty feet from the overlook.
