Geocache Description:

This cache is at a cave. My brother and I found this cave in 1997 in January. We were riding ATV's on top of a hard crust of snow that was about 3' deep to within about 1/4 mile of the cave. After exploring the cave for a while and starting our return trip we found that the crust of the snow had become soft and our ATV's were falling through. We spent most of the rest of the day shoveling snow to make our way back out. Placing this cache was my first time back to the cave.

To get to the cache, Drive to Lund on Highway 318 and head to way point 1. This way point is at an intersection of Sawmill Canyon Road. Head north on the road until you cross a cattle guard where the road will make a hard right heading North East. Stay on the road until you get to way point 2 where you will turn off to the North (left). Once you get to way point 3 you will be a "T" intersection of a fence surrounding a seeding. Turn East (right) along the edge of the seeding and the fence. Once you get to the end of the seeding and to a location where a second fence joins the first with a "T", turn left through an opening in the fence and drive along the East side of the seeding and the fence. At way point 4, and at the end of that side of the seeding, you will need to go through two gates in the corner of the seeding in order to get to the other side of the fence. If the gates are open, leave them that way. If they are closed, close them after you have gone through them. Don't cause the rancher more work than he already has. Drive North on the road to way point 5 where you will take a right at the fork there. Continue on this road toward way point 6. We parked at way point 6 in a Jeep Cherokee. We did not have to use 4 wheel drive, but you might need to depending on the conditions. You will need a high clearance vehicle, and if you park where we did, you will probably end up with some Nevada pin striping thanks to the beautiful trees. Where we parked is only .12 mile from the cache, but if you park where the trees start to get thick, it is not much farther.

This cache is a 50 Cal ammo box. Be careful on the short hike up to the cache and on the rocks. Take necessary precautions if you choose to enter the cave. Enjoy the cache, and thanks for looking.
