Geocache Description:

If you love a lovely walk, you'll love this

Most people will know of RAF Fairford, where the Air Tattoo is held, where B52s have been based. But fewer will have walked around the nearby small town of Fairford. It has many lovely buildings and is well worth exploring. Don't be put off by the narrow main road that goes through the middle, there is much more to it than that. There are pubs, a restaurant (expensive) and a cafe, plus a few shops. The local butcher has a van with a sign on the back that says 'No sausages are left in this van overnight'.

We suggest that you use the excellent free car park - just drive up past the church (ignore the on-street parking) and the entrance is at the T-junction at 51 42.596N 001 46.948W.

The cache is just over a mile away, and to get there you will take a wonderful walk through Fairford. Start by going back down past the church to the main road and taking a little road imediately on the opposite side. This leads to a path alongside the sparkling River Coln, finally reaching the lakes, which were formed after gravel extraction. It might get a little muddy in a couple of places after heavy rain, but most times it will be fine. There are no stiles, and you might be able to get a buggy along if you are feeling energetic.

Once you have found the cache, please hide it again properly. To start with it contains a mini coloured pencil set, hair remoisturiser, Cockney alphabet book, wooden pear, pack of cards, Convict game, an elephant and a rabbit. And finally, a Travel Bug named Finder of Ways. So, who's going to be FTF?

When you have found the cache you can either return the way you came, or go around the lakes - OS Explorer Map 169 will be helpful.
