This cache is hidden on the property of The Mill, an antique and artisan center in the town of Dolgeville, with permission of the owners. As you search for the cache be sure and note the buildings making up this factory complex and the Pratt Truss iron bridge on limestone and concrete supports, that was built in 1887.

In 1874 Alfred Dolge came to Brockett’s Bridge, a tiny hamlet on the East Canada Creek. It was the perfect location for the piano and felt factory Dolge was looking to relocate from New York City. In 1882, he started construction of the great factory complex that remains there today. Dolge did so much for the little hamlet that it changed its name to Dolgeville in his honor.

The factory complex, which today is an antiques and artisan center, was constructed from 1862 to 1895 by Dolge. Built of local lime stone, it is a monument to his vision and humanitarian philosophy. You can read more about the history of this magnificent complex at: (visit link) and more about Alfred Dolge and the history of the village at: (visit link) and (visit link) Because of Dolge, Dolgeville has these firsts: first Social Security type retirement plan 1876, first slipper and shoe of felt made in America 1881, First hydroelectric plant (using Edison’s second dynamo) 1881, first public kindergarten in New York State 1889, first park system in the area 1876 and the first upstate New York village lighted by electricity 1891.

No climbing is required for this cache. It is a micro with only room for the log. Bring your own pen to sign the log and enjoy the history of the place.The Antiques Mall is now reduced in size and located across the roadway. The main building is being turned into condos.
