The Herbert Glacier Trail, beginning at a pull-out parking lot, mile 27 Glacier Highway, was upgraded in 2005 through a major effort by Trail Mix of Juneau and the Forest Service. The trail is excellent for bicycles and runners.
It begins in a mature Spruce/Hemlock forests and continues through smaller stand of trees as it winds up the Herbert River Valley. You can get an excellent view of the Herbert Glacier at the end of the trail -- just watch the river level.
The cache is located after the first mile of the trail. You will have to get off the main trail however you can see some of the old trail and get a good look at Herbert River.
The container has a plastic tube and is covered with camo tape. This should be an easy cache but a hint is provided too. This is also brown and black bear country so clean hiking techniques should be used.
