This cache has been archived.

Kosh Naranek: As there has been no response to my previous note, and this cache is still missing or in need of repair, I am archiving it to allow for the placement of new caches in the area. If you choose to repair it in the immediate future, I may be able to un-archive it as long as it meets the current guidelines.

Geocache Description:

Cache is a small "Lock Tight" container. Log and room for some small trade items. Shouldn't be too hard to find. Bring your own writin' stick. Please replace/re-hide the cache well so others can also enjoy finding it.

Cache container and log replaced on 6/15/07. Should be a little more water tight than the last one. Cache has been moved slightly from original location to a spot a little more out of the weather. Please return the cache where you found it and watch your head! This cache is dedicated to the California Department of Forestry air crews that risk their lives on a regular basis to protect life and property throughout California. These guys do an incredible and dangerous job. The cache is located in a small park adjacent to the Hemet-Ryan CDF Air Attack Base. Take a few minutes to enjoy the park, read the memorial plaques, and take a look at the "gate guard" S-2 aircraft located there. Walk across the parking lot to view the CDF airplanes from the viewing area. If you get a chance, stop by and say "Thanks!" to the airborne firefighters that protect us. In support of its ground forces, the CDF emergency response air program includes 23 Grumman S-2T 1,200 gallon airtankers (one is kept as maintenance relief), 11 UH-1H Super Huey helicopters (two are kept as maintenance relief, and 14 OV-10A airtactical aircraft (one is kept as maintenance relief). From 13 air attack and nine helitack bases located statewide, aircraft can reach most fires within 20 minutes. The airtactical planes fly overhead directing the airtankers and helicopters to critical areas of the fire for retardant and water drops. The retardant used to slow or retard the spread of a fire is a slurry mix consisting of a chemical salt compound, water, clay or a gum-thickening agent, and a coloring agent. While both airtankers and helicopters are equipped to carry fire retardant or water, the helicopters can also transport firefighters, equipment and injured personnel. All CDF Aircraft are strategically located throughout the state at airbases and helicopter bases. During high fire activity, CDF may move aircraft to better provide statewide air support.
