Jeff Barr Trail Traditional Cache

By the accounts I’ve read, Jeff Barr was a man of passion. Jeff’s particular passion was mountain biking. Jeff passion for mountain biking led him to quickly master the sport. It’s said that he especially enjoyed riding downhill and the steeper the better.

Jeff was credited with helping many people get started in biking. He introduced people to biking, got them interested in the sport, and then encouraged them to continue to improve their skills and take on more challenging trails. Jeff and his brother found an overgrown path on Pike Run Trial and started clearing it off for others to enjoy.

In November of 1999, the Pike Run Trail was renamed the Jeff Barr Memorial Trail in his honor. But what happened to Jeff? Why is the trail named after him? And is there something that we all can learn from his story?

This cache is located off of the Jeff Barr Memorial Trail in Forbes State forest. To get to the cache start off by parking at the trail head located at 40 04.766 -79 19.412 and proceed to the Jeff Barr trail. From there you can follow your GPS.

This trail is located in Forbes State Forest, and is open to hunting. Please be sure to wear a sufficient amount of blaze orange if you are attempting this cache during hunting season.

This is a fairly flat and clear trail. There are some jeep trails that may take you closer to the cache, but these will deprive you of a great hike along a nice trail, and are not available throughout the year.

Please note: There are some nasty briers growing in the area. It might be best to wear long pants or use caution in this area!
