Bei diesem Cache handelt es sich um einen Traditional-Cache, der euch ein wenig Kondition abverlangen wird. Bis zum Cache braucht man in etwa 1 Stunde. Ihr müsst die Wege, bis auf die letzten Meter zum Cache nie verlassen. Festes Schuhwerk, Trittsicherheit, eine Wanderkarte sowie etwas zu Trinken ist anzuraten.

Am besten ihr parkt euer Auto (falls ihr halt mit dem Auto unterwegs seid) bei den angegebenen Parkkoordinaten. Der Parkplatz liegt auf einer Höhe von 1330m.

Es gibt mehrere Möglichkeiten auf den Brandriedel zu kommen, aber der Roseggersteig ist meiner Meinung nach der schönste, wenn auch der anstrengenste und anspruchvollste. Von den Parkkoordinaten aus kann man entweder gleich dem Katapillaweg bergaufwärts folgen oder man folgt noch ein kurzes Stück der Asphaltstrasse bis man beim Gasthaus Edelbrunn angekommen ist und folgt von hier aus dem beschilderten Roseggersteig. Von hier aus hätte man auch die Möglichkeit übder das Dachsteinhaus, die Brandalm und die Austriahütte auf den Brandriedel zu kommen. Dieser Weg ist bestimmt weniger anstrengend, aber verläuft so gut wie nur auf Forststrassen und diesen würde ich für den Rückweg empfehlen.

Ein paar Meter hinter dem "Torbogen" erreicht man einen Zaun mit einem Durchgang wo man dann links abbiegt. Wer vom Katapillaweg aus kommt, stoßt hier dazu und geht geradeaus weiter. Nun folgt man dem Weg aufwärts und bei der nächsten Weggabelung haltet man sich links am Roseggersteig und folgt NICHT dem Jungfrauensteig. Von da an folgt man immer dem markierten Weg bis man auf den Kamm des Brandriedels kommt. Zu meiner Erschütterung wurden die letzten Meter zum Kamm mit einer Stahltreppe erneuert, da der bisherige Weg anscheinend einem Felsrutsch zum Opfer viel... Die Treppe ist in meinen Augen eine Vergewaltigung der Natur, aber naja... Am Kamm angekommen folgt man diesem Richtung Südwest bis man sich am "Gipfel" des Brandriedels befindet. Die gemütlichen Bänke wurden leider entfernt, aber hier erweist sich eine Decke bzw. Sitzunterlage als sehr nützlich.

Von hier aus kann man sich dann auf Cachesuche machen, der übrigens nicht weit entfernt und auf einer Höhe von 1720m liegt.

Für den Rückweg habt ihr nun zwei Möglichkeiten. Entweder ihr steigt den Roseggersteig zurück oder ihr geht zurück bis zu der Stelle an der ihr auf den Kamm gelangt seid und zweigt dort in Richtung Austriahütte nach Nordwest ab. Von der Austriahütte aus geht man am Besten Richtung West quer über die Alm, zur ein Stück darunter liegenden Brandalm. Es führt auch eine Forstrasse zur Brandalm nur geht man hier einen unnötig weiten Umweg. Von der Brandalm aus folgt man dem Forstweg bergabwärts bis man, nachdem man das Dachsteinhaus passiert hat, beim Gasthaus Edelbrunn ankommt.

Eine weitere Möglichkeit diesen Cache zu machen ist es bis zur Talstation der Dachstein-Seilbahn zu fahren, die Strasse ist übrigens Mautpflichtig, um von dort aus zur Austriahütte und dann auf den Brandriedel zu steigen. Allerdings müsst ihr dann den gleichen Weg retour nehmen und der Weg ist bei weitem nicht so schön wie der über den Roseggersteig.

Die Idee hinter denen von uns platzierten Caches in dieser Region ist es, diese in einer Wanderung zu verbinden. Der Brandriedel ist der erste dieser Runde. Vom Brandriedel aus folgt man dem markierten Weg bis zur Austriahütte. Diese lässt man linker Hand liegen und gelangt auf einen Forstweg, dem man nach Nordosten, immer in Richtung Dachstein Gletscherbahn folgt. Von dort aus führt der markierte Weg zur Südwandhütte. Von der Südwandhütte aus gehts zur Märchenwiese und dann retour über die Brandalm zum Gasthaus Edelbrunn. Wir haben für die gesamt Runde mit Pausen und Mittagessen cirka 6 Stunden benötigt. Der Höhenunterschied vom niedrigsten Punkt (Gasthaus Edelbrunn) zum höchsten Punkt (Südwandhütte) beträgt in etwa 570m. Mit etwa 750m die man bergaufsteigen muss sollte man insgesamt rechnen.

This Cache is a Traditional- Cache that is not so demanding concerning fitness and condition. It will take you an hour to get to the Cache. You will not have to leave the paths up to the last meters before the cache. It is advisable to wear a pair of sturdy shoes which offer you a save walk and to take a hiking map and something to drink with you.

It would be best if you park your car (if you go by car) at the given parking coordinates. The car parking is located at an altitude of 1330 meters.

There are various possibilities to get to Brandriedel, but, in my opinion, the Roseggersteig is the most beautiful even though also the most strenuous and the most demanding one.

Starting at the parking coordinates you can either right away take the forestry road uphill or you follow the asphalted road for a short while until you get to Gasthaus Edelbrunn and then follow the marked way called Roseggersteig. From here on you would also have the possibility to get to the Dachsteinhaus, then to the Brandalm, then to the Austriahütte and so to finally get to the Brandriedel. This path is not at all strenuous but the most time it consists of forestry roads, which I would rather advise for your way back home.

Some meters behind the “archway” you will get to a fence with a passage where you have to turn left. If you are coming from the forestry road also arrives at this point. From here you have to keep going straight ahead. Now you have to follow the path uphill and at the next fork in the road you turn left to the Roseggersteig and NOT right to the Jungfrauensteig. From here on you have to follow the marked path until you get to the ridge of Brandriedel. I was shocked to notice that the last few meters up to the ridge were modified by a new stairway made of steel. Apparently the old path had been destroyed by a landslide. In my opinion the stairway is a violation of nature, but you know… When you arrive at the ridge you have to follow it southwest until you get to the "peak" of the Brandriedel. Unfortunately the comfortable benches were removed, but nevertheless a blanket or something else to sit upon can also do a good job.

From here on you can start your search for the cache. It is not very far away and it is located at an altitude of 1720 meters.

You have two possibilities for your way back. Either you return by the Roseggersteig or you go back up to the place where you got on the ridge and then turn northwest to the Austriahütte. From the Austriahütte onward it would be best if turn west across the pasture in the direction of the quite nearly below situated Brandalm. From the Austriahütte onward you have to follow the forestry road downhill past the Dachsteinhaus until you get to Gasthaus Edelbrunn.

Another possibility to do this Cache is to drive up to the base terminal of the cable railway, by the way this is a toll road, and then climb up to the Austriahütte and then to Brandriedel. However you will have to take the same way back which is by far not so beautiful as the Roseggersteig.

The idea behind the Caches we have hidden in this region is to connect these to a hiking route. The Brandriedel is the first in this round. From Brandriedel onward you have to follow the marked path up to the Austriahütte which you have to pass on the right side. Now you get on a forestry road which you have to follow northeast in the direction of the Dachstein Gletscherbahn. From there onward you have to follow the marked path to the Südwandhütte. Starting from the Südwandhütte you can go to the Märchenwiese and then back via the Brandalm to Gasthaus Edelbrunn. The difference in altitude from the lowest point (Gasthaus Edelbrunn) to the highest point (Südwandhütte) is about 570 meters. You have to expect to go uphill for about 750 meters.
