Geocache Description:

Views out over the Humber estuary to Spurn Point, war-time forts
protecting the estuary mouth, the statue at the entrance to
Grimsby's fish docks, & the industrialised south bank. Easy
walking with plenty of wildlife to see, especially birds and
occasionally deer.

This cache is set in an isolated and low-lying part of Holderness, much of which has been reclaimed from the Humber estuary, as witnessed by the name of the nearby village of 'Sunk Island'. Now an area of rich farmland, it was at the turn of the 20th Century the preserve of wildfowl hunters, who used punts to navigate the many drainage channels, & to venture out onto the estuary itself. Probably the most famous of these wildfowlers was Stanley Duncan, who founded WAGBI (Wildfowlers' Association of Great Britain & Ireland) in 1908.

Turn right off the A1033 at Patrington, & pass through the village of Patrington Haven (food available at the pub here or in Patrington itself) to the coordinates above. Here there is parking room for about 4 cars, and a commemoration plaque to Stanley Duncan & WAGBI.

To find the actual cache location, then you need to get the following information.

The year in which Stanley Duncan was born was ABCB, & the commemoration plaque was erected in ADDF.

Go through the wooden gate by the car park and find a marker of the Prime Meridian at location:

N53 3B.(C-A)(B+A)0
W000 00.A0(F-A)

(Notice the offset between the WGS84 and Ordnance Survey datums.)

From here, continue on to the actual cache location at:

N53 3B.(C-A)(F-A)A
W000 00.(D-C)(D-C)B

The cache is a small tupperware container with the usual bits & bobs.
