This is the fouth in a series of fairly easy and young cacher friendly caches that will take you on a tour of places on the penninsula with interesting names.
Pancake hill: Like soup plate hill to the west, this was a spot that was just crying out for a cache to be placed on it. It's history was a little tougher to find out... I heard a few different renditions, but I'll go with the one that a local historian gave me. (Feel free to add your own in the logs!)
The hill got its name when a horse drawn wagon was heading up, away from the ferry landing, the back of the wagon was not secured well, flew open, and out went the farmer's supply of pancake batter.
I'm not sure of the truth behind the tale, but have always loved the name of the place. Hope you enjoy the hunt.
You 'can' go directly to this cache, down over the hill, but if you go to the back right corner of the cemetary, you'll find a better route. Plus as an added bonus, if you're there in early August, you'll walk past lots and lots of very tasty blackberrys.
