Uptown
[Lisbon]

"From the downtown to the uptown, from the first century to the twenty-first, from the Romans to us,
Lisbon grew as a city. First it was called Olisipo and then Lisboa (in a long lost language)."
in History from the future

Just one number to show the size of the extension that is being born to the city of Lisbon: 65.000 habitants. A place made to accommodate everyone, from the low to high incomes families. A city within a city, planned for everything: residential, commercial, services and hotels. An urban design with state-of-the-art infra-structures and mass transportation, parks, social and sports equipments.

In the beginning of the 21st century, the city of Lisbon needed to end it’s historical axis from the "Campo Grande" until the end of the urban north perimeter. The "Alta de Lisboa" (literally meaning Lisbon Heights) has an approximate area of 300 hectares north from the "segunda circular" and west of the airport.

The "Alta de Lisboa" is oriented to the street, the major public space. Within the dense urban blocks, green areas complement this density. The design is regular, as the traditional "Avenidas Novas", in blocks with balanced heights, allowing good population densities. The "Passeio de Lisboa", the main axis of this territory, possesses an ample and diversified tree coverage that will make it more delightful. This will be the biggest avenue in the city.

Through the re-qualification of the big parks, like "Parque das Conchas" and "Quinta dos Lilases", and the building from scratch of new ones, like "Parque Oeste (Parque do Vale Grande)" and "Parque das Calvanas", the "Alta de Lisboa" presents a great relation between the green areas and the rest of the built-up. There will be 70 hectares of green zones.

In the "Alta de Lisboa" it will be possible to find a diversified commerce, from the small neighborhood coffee-shop to the big shopping surfaces. In the North runabout you will find a shopping-mall, hotel and offices that will make the "Alta de Lisboa" a real city.

The "Alta de Lisboa" is born in 1984 in the sequence of an International Public Competition.

Good cache-hunts in Lisbon.
