Geocache Description:

This will be a short walk on a very well groomed trail. I placed the cache wearing sandals.

This cache is placed near a plaque dedicated to William Whipple. Mr. Whipple was a railroad engineer who did a little moonlighting on the side. Well, you could say a lot of moonlighting. He owned and operated a boat livery selling boats, fishing tackle, bait and even had an ice cream parlor. I bet if you rented a boat from him, he might have even given a hint as to where the fish were hitting. Boaters and canoeists would come in from Silver Lake, dock at Whipple's Livery and walk into downtown Perry. If you walk across the street and into the business there, you will find some old pictures of those enjoying Silver Lake Outlet and Whipple's Livery.
We still have places like this in Florida along the St. Johns River. The locals refer to them as fish camps. The one my husband and I go to, if we come back from fishing empty handed, the owner(LH)even gives us a bag of fillets to take home for supper. Now that's suthern hospitality.
This is a relatively easy puzzle cache, with all of the information needed to complete the cache, on the memorial stone. This stone is located at the coordinates listed.
The final coordinates are N 42 42.- - - W 078 00.- - -
Using the last three digits of the date that the livery was gone by, subtract 18- these are the last three digits of the North coords.
Using the last three digits of the date that the stone was dedicated, subtract 266- these are the last three digits of the West coords.
It can't get much easier than that. No hints for this one.
Be sure to bring your fishpole along. The fish were feeding on top while I was there.
This is my first cache, so go easy on me if my coords are a bit off, but please let me know. You will need your own pencil and no room for trade items.
Silver Lake Railroad Trail cache is just a short hike down a beautiful trail along the outlet. So if you haven't done it yet, be sure to take the time.
