"The objective of caching is to find the cache."
Repeat this mantra constantly as you seek Dizzy otherwise you won't know whether to go left or right and may end up going round and round in circles.
"The objective of caching is to find the cache."– nothing else matters.
Dizzy is going to take you into some of the most rugged and spectacular terrain in the Adelaide Hills.
Dizzy is physically and mentally demanding. Take proper precautions. Dress appropriately, wear a hat, use sunscreen, carry a first aid kit, sufficient food and at least 2 litres of water per person. Remember weather conditions can and do change rapidly.
Dizzy is a navigation exercise. You will need a topographic map of the area, scale rule and maybe a calculator. Attempting to find Dizzy by blindly following the GPS arrow will at best be futile, at worst fatal. Map 7 from Push the Bush (FRIENDS OF THE HEYSEN TRAIL AND OTHER WALKING TRAILS INC.), available from good outdoor shops, is recommended. And don't forget "The objective of caching is to find the cache."
There are a few ways to attempt Dizzy. The most satisfying is just go for it. Get it right and it's a pleasant day walk of some 12Km for the moderately fit, or a jog before breakfast for the athlete. So try starting at the published way point and see how you go from there. Free parking is available approximately 500m away. Alternatively you could do it in easy stages. Start by going for the Second waypoint. Come back another day and do some Moore. Then a cup of tea, a Bex and a good lie down before you contemplate the location of GZ. Of course you are free to go straight to the cache if you wish, but that might be a little difficult without picking up at least some of the way points..
Which ever way you get there, once you decide it's time to go for GZ here are a few tips to make life more comfortable, and maybe slightly longer. Leave the main trail at the obvious drain and then keep to the spur as long as possible. The final few metres are best done from the south.
Once more, you aren't trying to find waypoints. "The objective of caching is to find the cache."
Here are a few more tips & hints :
1. The cache is regular and full of goodies, but all intermediate waypoints are small, about the size of a floppy disk
2. At waypoint F if the sat lock is bad you may have difficulty. It is "Under a little rock, under a big rock" on the high side of the track. Look out for muggles.
3. The objective of caching is to find the cache.
Warnings:
This cache should not be attempted on days when the forecast temperature is over 30 degrees C.
Take extreme care in wet and slippery conditions.
The park is closed on days when a total fire ban is declared for the Mount Lofty Ranges.
Note on star ratings: Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security. There are easier caches out there with higher ratings than Dizzy. The rating for Dizzy is about where I think it should be. To rate it any higher would be to leave me no where to go on harder caches.
