Geocache Description:

You are looking for a waterproof match container.

Capitol Square Park was once proposed to the new Nebraska legislature as a site to hold Nebraska's state capitol. Now, you can find a place to sit and enjoy the hilly terrain of Southeast Nebraska. The area does have a picnic shelter and provides a great view of the valley that contains the town of Brownville. In the fall, the foliage will provide breath-taking colors for all to enjoy!

While in Brownville, there are numerous historic places to visit, since this is one of the first towns that formed in Nebraska. Here are some short tidbits about this great little town...

Brownville became a transfer point for westbound wagon caravans. Daniel Freeman filed a homestead claim, recognized as the first in the nation. The first telegraph office in Nebraska was located in town. Both party candidates for governor in 1872 were from Brownville. The Nebraska Advertiser, one of the state's first newspapers, was established 1856. The town was listed on National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
