Geocache Description:

This cache is a singular cache that can be done on its own or as part of a larger series of caches that make up "The Twelve Labors of Hercules"

Hercules is the Roman name for greatest hero in Greek mythology. Like most authentic heroes, Hercules had a god as one of his parents. Hercules was the son of the supreme deity Zeus and a mortal woman. As Hercules was growing up he was a victim of a number jealous attacks and antagonisms that eventually led him to kill his own children. To atone for his crime, he was sentenced to perform a series of tasks, or "Labors", for his cousin Eurystheus, the king of Tiryns and Mycenae.

Labor Three: The Cerynitian Hind

The third Labor was the capture of the Cerynitian hind. Though a female deer, this fleet-footed beast had golden horns. It was sacred to Artemis, goddess of the hunt, so Heracles dared not wound it. He hunted it for an entire year before running it down on the banks of the River Ladon in Arcadia. Taking careful aim with his bow, he fired an arrow between the tendons and bones of the two forelegs, pinning it down without drawing blood. All the same, Artemis was displeased, but Heracles dodged her wrath by blaming his taskmaster Eurystheus.

... and now onto the cache.

This cache is hidden on top of a local landmark that should be familiar to anyone who has driven between Las Cruces and El Paso. The landmark I'm speaking of is Bishop Cap, and it will look something like the below photograph as you begin your "Labor"!

There are many ways to ascend Bishop Cap, and none of them involve a well worn trail. So this hike will be off trail nearly the whole way. Dress appropriately. I used the following directions to reach the beginning of my hike.

Exit #151 on I-10 south of Las Cruces
Head NE on an unmarked road toward the county liquid waste disposal facility
Pavement ends @ 1.3 miles from interstate
Stay on main road
Pass the Dona Ana County Liquid Waste Disposal Facility on the right at 2.9 miles from interstate
Pull into parking area on right at 4.5 miles from interstate

Upon reaching the parking area you'll have to rely on your own two feet for next ~2 miles as you pick and choose your route toward the top of Bishop Cap.

The cache is somewhat small, so if you take something out please try to leave something so the contents do not get depleted. Thanks!

Additional information about Bishop Cap can be found at Summit Post.

*** When you find the cache be sure to write down the three digit code inside the front cover of the log book. That code will be needed to find the final cache in the series. ***
