Geocache Description:

In the age before written history when only spoken word passed on knowledge of things known there was a worm that plagued the people that lived in what we now know as The Potomac River Gorge. The worm was said to have been large enought to eat little children. It is described as a fat, bright red worm, two to four feet long. There are a number of extraordinary claims by NoVA locals (such as the ability of the worm to spew forth a yellow poison that is lethal on contact, and its purported ability to kill at a distance). However, there are no known scientifically reliable sightings.

A joint expedition in 2006 by the Centre for Fortean Zoology, Cryptoworld and the Northern Viginia Regional Park Authority investigated new reports and sighting of the creature. Although they found no scientific proof of its existence, they do believe that such a creature could exist in the deep in the woods along the strictly prohibited areas of the border of the Algonkian Golf Course and driving range. Future expeditions are planned for 2007 and 2008, where they will also investigate the legend of the Algonkian Almas.

This cache was placed for the 2006 NoVAGO Fall Gathering.
