Geocache Description:

ALL CLUES AND LOCATIONS HAVE BEEN CHANGED AS WE HAVE HAD TO MOVE THE FINAL CACHE.....

The cache cannot be found at the co-ordinates provided.  The co-ordinates listed are for the Decoy Spa with the purpose of misleading weary travellers, hence keeping the Spa just that little bit exclusive to the dignatories using it.   The real location can be determined by first locating three local Romans (set by Lassitude and adopted by S&G.Davison) who between the three of them, and the help of a clue at a until recently undiscovered 4th location, will divulge the real Spa.

5th century AD (ish) - Two Romans were given the task to safeguard the location to the secret Spa which was used by high ranking officials from the nearby fort.  Co-ordinates of a number of watery locations in the vicinity were given to the pair with verbal instructions on how to put this information together to determine the real location.  Many local folks tried to bribe them with Coins for this location to no avail.  Later as the abandonment of the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum (Silchester) was underway, they looked back at the Remains of what had been a thriving town realising that the Spa location was about to be lost forever.  In an effort to save this information they hid their information aound the town, then put final details of the local knowledge required to unravel the problem somewhere along the Road so others in the future could find the Spa and think back to when Calleva had been a bustling place of activity.

Even then they felt that the location may fall into the wrong hands so left a final clue hidden en-route.

Present Day - these jumbled co-ordinates and the clue can still be found in the area.  It is your challenge to find these should you wish to find the Spa.  There is a long route and a short route which can be determined by carefully reading the description.  It's the same end result you just may have to walk a little further than anticipated.  The Decoy Pond used to mis-guide travellers is still visible on the maps today.

The puzzle part is to identify and locate the local Romans who can help. Each Roman will divulge a clue to get you to the last clue where you will get the last piece of information needed to locate the Spa.

Final Clue - using the co-ordinates of the Decoy, subtract the number found along the Road from the minutes of the westing. At this location you will find a green Forestry Commission sign.
Count the number of words in the paragraph "A new .... Commission". This is AB.
At the bottom of the sign there are some numbers FCCSXYZ.     C= (Y*Z)+X     D=(X+Z)

Cache Location : N51 (AB-Remains).(C-Coins)C(Road+Coins)    W001 (Remains)D.CC5

If you have already found all of these then please get in touch and we will provide the clues needed to find the Spa, to make it a little more fun maybe also suggest the route you would have taken to find the Spa.

Further information on Silchester can be found on the University of Reading web site.
