Lawrence has very few caches
and not too many places to hide them. This is in Pemberton
Park, near the Great Stone Dam. Completed in 1848, it is over
1600 feet long and over 30 feet high.
In 1936 the river rose so high,
the dam disappeared. In 2006, the water came close, but
missed by 2 feet. This spot was actually under water, but we
need 25 or so more feet of water to make that happen
again.
Careful what you say. It can come back and bite you in
the cache. The flood of 2006 was called “Once in a Lifetime”,
well it happened again in less than a year. April of 2007 saw
the river rise above the rock wall. Unfortunately, I was out
of town when the water was rising and I was just a few hours late
and the original cache was washed away. I moved this to where
I hope it will not wash away.
Fishermen line the banks and
boats crowd the river fishing for Shad and Striped Bass.
Salmon also migrate upriver, using the fish elevator on the south
end of the dam.
Look for the rocks with salmon
etched into them nearby.
No need to get close to the
water. The current here is very fast. Keep out of the
water.
Please replace the container
exactly as you find it.
If anyone is interested in
CITO, please be careful! This is a city and has the dangers a
city brings. I have seen a needle in the rocks.
Do not reach for things you
can not see!
