As we see it, there are three approaches to this cache. The
first is from the south. However we had a really nice talk with the
woman at the Jurupa Cultural Center, and she strongly advised
against it. She said not only was this the longer approach, but
it's also the hot, dry and ugly approach. She also added there's no
parking on Granite Hill Drive, nor in her Cultural Center.
The second approach, the one she recommended, was from the Mary
Vagle Museum & Nature Center (parking at n34 02.630 w117
26.969). She said there were trails from there to the summit, but
for the life of us we can't see them on Google Earth.
The third, and we think best, approach is from the Martin Tudor
park. We parked at n34 02.746 w117 26.195 right near a trailhead up
the hill. Now, be warned, we're not quite sure what the park's
hours are, or what, if any, parking restrictions they have. Cacher
beware! Having said that, we parked there about 6a on a Sunday and
didn't see a soul and had no problems.
As for the trail itself, it's wide and pretty steep for the
first little bit, but it narrows rather quickly once you get into
the rocks, and is then only moderatly steep. It's a well maintained
and beautiful trail, we couldn't have been happier with the great
hike. Be sure to stop by and pick up
Soylent Green (GCXN15) on your way up the hill.
If you proceed past this cache, just a bit further up the hill,
you can find where the summit benchmark used to be, at n34 01.941
w117 26.566. The views from the summit are breathtaking, some of
the best in the IE.
Happy caching,
Mr. & Mrs. Wisearse.
