This cache will take you to the old Cyfartha Ironworks
The information boards near the entrance provide a lot of
information on the site including that they were visited by Lord
Nelson in 1802 and that they were the largest in the world at the
beginning of the 19th century.
The blast furnace is freely accessible and with care you can
explore the inner workings of it. You will however need a good
torch as it very dark and be prepared to get wet even in dry
weather
Without using the hint I think it will be a 4* difficulty
however using the hint it should be 2* difficulty. If the cache has
too many DNF's I will add a cheat photo that will ensure that you
can find it easily.
I actually placed the cache about two months ago but never sent
it for approval as I had concerns about the area. You first of all
need to be prepared, a good torch and old clothes are essential.
You then need to find a safe place to park your car. Note that the
road leading to the cache is double yellow lines and might lead to
your car being broken into as this is not the safest of areas to
park. You will find much safer parking close by in residential
streets.
The other concern I have is the amount of litter around. On my
first visit beer cans were strewn around the place and it was the
same today so why not take a CITO bag with you?
If you are attempting this cache in the dark be careful where
you walk as although the buildings in front of the furnace have
been demolished there is still rough ground with some large
holes.
I hope that the cache might turn into a dark side series
resulting in a final cache based on the others you will have
already found. If you want to complete the final cache make a note
of the number in the container.
Hope you enjoy the cache.
