In view of the iron horse not at the iron horse.
This sculpture has received lots of notoriety over the years.
This was always one of those local waymarks that has been noted on drives up to Athens. It signified the next time for a pit stop or turn or "car bingo". " I saw it first", you know those kind of car games before the in-car DVD, I Pods, Headphones and other gizmos used to isolate your self from the rest of the family on trips. Thank goodness for Geocaching, a great way to bring some social communication back to family travel for this generation!
Some times when the corn is high you can't spot but the head snickering to the wind.
Iron Horse - A 2,000 pound sculpture by Abbot Pattison was placed at the University of Georgia in 1954; it lasted on campus less than two days. After repeated attacks by students, it was purchased by to an agriculture professor who placed it on his Greene County farm. [From "Early Hill" return to Hwy. 15 and turn left (north). Go 11 miles; the horse is on the right in a field just after you cross the Oconee River Bridge.]
Notice the Horses’ Arse faces Athens never to return there again.
Hope you can give it a photo shot to add to the gallery!
