A distinct stretch of open moorland interrupted by several hill peaks and minor passes which can be quite steep in parts. Small ponds and waterlogged area can make the area muddy in parts.
The cache is just inside Flintshire almost sitting on the boundary to the neighbouring county of Denbigh. You will be able to see some of the dry-stone walling which marked the boundary.
Looking around from the cache you will be able to see the many hills giving the area its distinctive look. To the south is Moel Famau (Mother Hill) with the remains of the Victorian Jubilee Tower. To the north is Moel Arthur and Moel Llys-y-coe (mentioned in the Doomsday Book). Other nearby peaks are Moel Dywyll, Moel y Gaer and Moel Eithinen. Moel for those interested is Welsh for hill.
The moorland is generally unenclosed and consists mainly of heather and bracken. Several footpaths link the villages and you can start your walk at a number of poits. It will be quite easy to link this with “Whats on Offa” and “Ffrith Mountain and WWII decoy base”
The co-ordinates were averaged out over several readings.
CACHE RE-ENSBLED THANKS TO THE MOLD MONSTERS WHO REPLACED THE CONTAINER
