in our disclaimer.
Requires boat or a very strong swimmer. Although it may not initially appear to be the case, there is no need to break or damage any of the plants on the island to access the cache -- however, you do need to have a bit of dexterity. Please replace the cache in the exact location where found and place upright so that water does not intrude into the cache.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CONGRATULATIONS TO DUBYADEE AS FTF!!
There is an old legend (well, maybe not so old) that a huge monster fish lives in the depths of Summit Lake. As this legend goes, this monster fish, who has been named Summie by the local residents (the name Nessie had been previously taken), lies in wait for an unlucky swimmer, wake boarder, or water skier to be in the water close to its lair. It only needs one to appease it for an entire year (it has not yet been appeased this year). It has been said that Summie's lair may be under the ledges that surround the only publicly owned island in the lake. This cache has been placed to bring outside people to the island in hopes that one may fall in and appease the monster's wrath, thus protecting us lake residents for another year. However, another part of the legend says that a Bald Eagle will protect those who treat the area kindly and do no damage to plants or animals while on the island. I believe this may be true, as a beautiful large eagle swooped down and grabbed a fish about 100 ft from the island just after we placed the cache. Note: There is one public access to the lake controlled by the WA Dept of Fish and Wildlife (DFW accesss pass required). The cache is located approximately 1 1/2 mi from this access. Canoes or kayaks will provide the easiest approach to the island, although powerboats and PWCs are allowed on the lake. Check around the island before you try to land, as there is one small area that is free of large rocks and easy to beach small craft. The public access is open from mid April till Oct 31. If you wish to access the cache during the closed months, contact Oly Sidewinder for information regarding permission and location for lake access. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 8-19-20 Cache has been replaced again. It is still a peanut butter jar, and has a tether attached to prevent it from drifting away during storms and high water. Please do not unattach the tether - the cache can be opened and logged with the tether attached. Please wind it up back around the cache when placing it back in its hiding spot.

Please do not unattach the tether - the cache can be opened and logged with the tether attached. Please wind it up back around the cache when placing it back in its hiding spot. A couple of trade items that may be useful to boaters/kayakers have been added to restart this cache. HAPPY CACHING!
