Caroline A Fox Research and Demonstration Forest:
The Caroline A. Fox Research and Demonstration Forest (Fox
Forest) has been the State of New Hampshire’s forest research
station since 1933. The forest is a gift to New Hampshire from Miss
Caroline Fox of Arlington, Massachusetts. Miss Fox spent her
summers here and had an interest in forest management issues.
Before her death, Miss Fox also donated to the State a trust fund
to finance forestry research projects. Presently the forest
contains 1,445 acres, the Henry I. Baldwin Forestry Education
Center and a farm house/office.. Brochures and trail maps for the
22 miles of trail system and entire property are available at the
Fox Forest Headquarters.
Gerry Cemetery:
Surrounded by stone walls about 2.5 Ft high is the 60 Ft N-S by
40 Ft. E-W Gerry Cemetery. Here you will find 10 gravestones that
appear to be constructed of white sandstone. Most of the headstones
are still standing and quite legible. The surnames are GEARRY,
GEARY, or GERRY. The earliest date I noted was Aug 6th, 1827 for
Winslow Gearry who died at 2 years, 4 months. The latest date noted
was Oct 9th, 1890 for Mary A Gerry who died 74 years old.
The Cache:
The cache is a clear 5.5 cup Lock –N- Lock container containing
various items for trade. The cache is NOT located inside the walls
of the cemetery please do not remove, pick up or adjust any rocks
in the cemetery walls it is not necessary. Be aware that a
letterbox is located nearby (I’m not sure exactly where). If you
find a hidden container in the woods that is not a clear 5.5 cup
Lock-n-Lock container you have probably found the letterbox,
trading for a stamp or ink-pad is a no-no!!
