A Walk On The History Side. Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

MadMin: I attempted to contact the owner of A Walk on the History Side to find out about the status of this cache on October 15, 2008. I have received no response from the owner on the cache page or via email. Because of that I'm afraid I have to archive this cache.

I will be more than happy to review this cache again and (hopefully) reinstate it once you have corrected any issues with the cache. please contact me via ma.reviewer@gmail.com to do so.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page places it through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.

Geocache Description:

Parking is at N.42.31.891, W.071.45.296.
The Gate has an old rusted lock that is NOT locked.

This cache will take you to an old Revolutionary War era cemetery name Pine Grove. What makes this cemetery so unique, is that it has one of the heaviest concentration of Revolutionary war veterans buried on it's ground in the country. There are 94 known burials from the revolutinary war.
It is located less than a 1/2 mile from the center of Leominster. The above parking coordinates will take you to the main iron gate entrance. In case of snow buildup during the winter months, you can also access the cemetery around to the right where you will find stone steps.
The history behind this cemetery began in 1741 as the site of the first meetinghouse. 'Town meetings were held in it for one third of a century. Nearby was the first school house built in 1749. During the revolution no money was raised for schools'. This monument was erected by Capt. John Joslin Jr. Chapter D.A.R. 1904.
On Oct. 12, 1742, a vote was taken and accepted for a part of this land to be used as a burial place, east of the meetinghouse. Soldiers buried here fought in the Revolutionary War, W.O.1812 and Civil War.
Once you make your presence inside, you will discover a very serene and historical place. It almost feels out of place with traffic just a stone's throw away. The trees seem to act as a buffer, and provide peace for the ones who rest here. This cache is hidden respectively away from all headstones. The reason why I picked this place for my first cache hide is to get people to visit and remember the people before us who endured hardships to establish the land of the free.
The most ironic tidbit is that I am a descendent from British Loyalists who exiled to Canada in the 1780's. Nevertheless, I was born in the U.S. and this is my home sweet home!

Please Be Careful When Removing And Replacing The Cache Or It Could Be Lost !!!
Most importantly, please be respectful of this sensitive site while visiting.

I want to also give credit for this first micro, to my partner in life, capepcman. Enjoy the search!
