THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES!
To find the cache, you will need to solve a mystery based on photographs taken along the Seaside Promenade (aka "The Prom" or "The Boardwalk"). The Prom is a wide, paved sidewalk running for 1.5 miles along the western edge of Seaside. It has terrific ocean views.
The listed coordinates are for the southern end of the Prom. There is parking at this location on Avenue U. This is a good place to start, although you may find it more convenient to start downtown. The photos to find are all between Avenue U on the south and 3rd Avenue on the north (a few blocks north of Broadway, the "main drag").
The photos are in order from south to north.
As you begin walking on the Prom, watch for the sites shown in the photos. When you find a site, try to stand in approximately the position the photo was taken. Using your GPS receiver, record the required digit for each photo as indicated below:
N 45 58.X38 A = X + 1 ___
N 45 58.X23 B = X - 9 ___
N 45 59.X79 C = X + 4 ___
N 45 59.X37 D = X - 1 ___
N 45 59.X31 E = X ___
N 45 59.X18 F = X - 7 ___
The distance between the first and last photos is 1.05 miles. You may want to set your GPS receiver's pedometer and watch so as not to walk too far.
When you find a site, don't worry too much if the last digit or two of your GPS reading doesn't quite agree with those listed.
Once you have located each site and noted the required numbers, build the coordinates for the final cache using the letters indicated as follows:
N 45 58.ABC
W 123 56.DEF
To check the accuracy of your findings, apply a "checksum" test: A + B + C + D + E + F = 18
The cache is near the southern end of the Prom. If you read the hint, you should be able to retrieve it easily without having to deal with the sharp evergreen needles. PLEASE return the cache to the location described in the hint. Thank you!
