Geocache Description:

This is a 32 ounce jar in a dead tree. There is a path that makes an S from the entry point down a long steep wide path into the valley. Not a difficult path but vegetation has grown up taller than a small child beside the path. There is poison ivy all along the path but in 18 years of walking around here it has never bothered us. Late fall to early spring there should be no poison ivy.

There is parking right across the road from the entry point at N43° 48.580 W079° 09.931. The cache is a medium sized screw top container about 7 inches deep. It is sprayed to camouflage it a bit. We have replaced the original contaainer due to damage. When placed the new container had some toys that might appeal to children, some pencils to use on the log and several bags of fossilized shark teeth from Florida.

You are taking a walk back in time to a century ago. In the valley you hear no traffic but if you look hard there are ruins of a silo or well. You could be walking in 1850.

If you try to bushwhack it will be very difficult, just stay on the trail. At the entrance the path starts as an old paved driveway that leads away from the cache. Fifty years ago Hurricane Hazel caused the destruction of many riverside homes. If you look carefully as you make the turn to the left you might see the remnants of at least one house.

The path descends steeply down a wide path that may have carried horses or tractors down to the field at the bottom of the hill. From the bottom the path heads to the right across a field and will carry along the river in the general direction of the cache. Stay on the river path until the track shows the cache at right angles to the path. The cache is about 100 feet off the path.

Several times we have seen groups of deer on both sides of the river.
