Placed on Rudland Rigg, this cache is on the track that runs across the moors from Fadmoor to Ingleby Greenhow. The area is probably best known for the iron mining that took place from the Iron Age to the early 20th Century, though coal and jet have also been mined.
A good parking place for this cache can be found at N54 19.533 W000 59.258, which is also the start of the track. Although the elevation increases by around 400ft to the cache site, the slope is gradual and at least it's downhill on the way back! The route runs along the ridge between Farndale in the east and Bransdale to the west. There are some excellent views, especially over Farndale from the cache site. Once you've found the hidey-hole, the entrance is on the EAST side - please replace the 'door' as it was.
After placing the cache, and while looking for suitable camouflage, we accidentally found a 'letter box' very close to our chosen location. Visitors are welcomed but if you also come across the small box, please respect this 'ancestor' of geocaching and do not take or leave anything. Letterboxing is based on the individual stamps placed at each location and these must remain with the logbook.
