Blawith Knott is a low hill located in the Woodland Fells, a wedge-shaped area of low fells situated to the west of Coniston Water and the Crake Valley, and to the east of the Kirkby Pool and Broughton-in-Furness. As with many lower fells, the views from the tops are far better than may be expected and the view from Blawith Knott's summit is superb, with the Coniston Fells and Black Combe-Whitfell range seen well. The best feature of the view however is the view towards the Duddon Estuary and out to sea. In addition to the views, the Woodland Fells provide quiet walking for those of us who like to get away from the crowds.
The best way up Blawith Knott is the pleasant grassy path ascending the south-west ridge from the 'Giant's Grave' by the Woodland Fell road - an easy short climb. If heading to the cache from this way, ascend the ridge of Blawith Knott until just below the prominent cairn on the skyline, where you should find a grassy trod traversing the fellside to the north which heads towards the cache area. Recommended extensions to the walk include heading on to Beacon Tarn and Tottlebank Height nearby.
This cache is located near Lang Tarn, which Alfred Wainwright mentioned as the smallest named tarn in the Lake District (in a close contest with Foxes Tarn on Scafell). The tarn/spring is located in a peaceful hollow below some heather-covered low crags, a lovely remote spot.
