Geocache Description:

This cache is located in a quiet area with wonderful views at any time of year.

There are several different ways to approach this cache. If you have time, I would recommend doing this cache as part of a circular walk – Axbridge town centre – Axbridge Hill – Callow Drove – Frys Hill (with option of Cheddar Wood and Wood Lane footpath)– Axbridge town centre.

Part of this walk is a very steep climb – but worth the effort when you get to the top. (Allow a couple of hours to do the circular walk)

There is free parking in Axbridge town square, however this is limited to 1 hour, so I would recommend that you use one of the two pay & display car-parks just off the square (signposted).

From the square, follow the footpath up the left hand side of the church to the bypass. Cross the bypass and follow the footpath (signposted Shipham) up some steep steps. At the top of the steps turn right and follow the track. You will eventually come to a point where the track takes a 90 degree left hand turn. At this point, follow the public footpath straight ahead through a new kissing gate and up the steep hill alongside the telegraph poles. The rest is up to you and your GPSr.

If you wish to follow the circular walk - after finding the cache continue uphill following the original footpath until you meet Callow Drove. Turn right and follow the Drove until you eventually come across another footpath sign on your right (just over a concrete/metal gate stile) which will take you alongside the quarry. When the roadway turns left, you will need to turn right opposite a 'Danger, Quarry Cliff Edge' white sign and head down a slope into a woooded area and follow the path through the woods. When you reach a stone stile in the wall, you have a choice of routes:
a) Follow the footpath sign straight ahead which will eventually bring you back to the kissing gate on your outbound route. A slight detour will allow you to visit the Frys Hill and Hillside Axbridge caches owned by Lightfeet
b) Follow the footpath sign to the left and down a steep wooded area to the bypass. Cross the bypass and go down Wood Lane footpath and then turn right along Cheddar Road and back to the town centre.
For those of you that do not have a local OS map and would like to do the circular walk, I have listed the waypoints of stiles and directional changes.

In Axbridge Town Centre there are pubs, restaurants and shops in the medieval town square and public toilets are just off the square (Moorland St).
If you have time, it is worth popping into the Museum in the town – it is open daily from Easter until 30th Sept (afternoons) and on the first Saturday morning of the month (all year) to coincide with the farmers market. There is no admission charge.
