The cache is a Tupperware container with a log and the usual trinkets. FTF gets the Tanky Tank.
This cache is located at the Saddleback lookout up Downieville way. The views are spectacular and if you’re lucky you may meet Mike, an interesting and hospitable resident. He has advised us that rattlers have been seen in the area, so be careful and probe with a stick before sticking your hands anywhere.
There are basically two ways to get there:
1) Head north on SR49 toward Downieville, turn left on Cal Ida Rd and then on FS25 which are mostly paved. Continue on to Saddleback Rd and turn left to the lookout turnoff.
2) Continue on SR49 then left on Saddleback Rd which takes you to the lookout turnoff. None of this is paved, but quite passable.
You will need 4WD to get to the lookout.
