While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed, and it is time to have it listed once again it will be no problem as long as it still meets the guidelines. Just drop me a note( by email at Mongo@geocachingadmin.com) and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and I am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
Mongo

Geocache Description:

The Kansas City, Clay County and St. Joseph Interurban Electric Rail ran from 1913 to 1933. It started in Downtown Kansas City heading northwest to St. Joseph, and northeast to Excelsior Springs in North Kansas City. There are several old Luten style arch bridges still standing on the old routes. For more information about this rail line go to: http://www.interurbanroad.com/. Ed Gentry has done extensive research and has some wonderful details and photos of the cars, stations and bridges.

The Avondale Bridge was just a block from Avondale Station – the first station out of North Kansas City on the ride to Excelsior Springs. For a really good view of the bridge you can drive past it on Excelsior Street in Avondale or walk past it on Antioch. It appears that part of the bridge is now someone’s backyard. The summer foliage is thick, making it difficult to see the bridge this season. This cache is located in Cooley Park where the cacher can (try to) view the bridge through the trees. Be cautious near Antioch Road. You are looking for an ammo box. Permission was granted to hide this cache.
