What do you do if someone dies while visiting your house? Find a place to bury him . . . at least that's what Henry McCalmont did!
In 1821, McCalmont settled along Cherry Run. In 1843, with the rise of the oil business, McCalmont built the Plumer Hotel (a/k/a Plumer House) as an inn and a house of entertainment. When an nameless traveler died at his inn, McCalmont donated the land for the Plumer Cemetery. He had the man buried on the hillside overlooking the village. Henry McCalmont and many oil barons are also buried in this cemetery.
