Geocache Description:

Nova Scotia - Lunenburg County - Stonehurst. Easy walk, strollers and wheel chair accessible.

Stonehurst was once known as Black Rocks. In fact the residents are still frequently referred to as Black Rockers by the area ‘Old Timers’. Stonehurst is a rugged coastal community that once was a small thriving fishing community. The area was also known to be a great place for ‘rum running’, or smuggling in liquor during the days of Prohibition. While fisherfolk still reside here, many others have discovered the area’s scenic beauty and have added a vibrant mix to the area. You’re apt to also see kayakers and artisans exploring the area during your visit.

There is an island at the end of the main road which is connected by a short foot bridge. There are seasonal residents who spend several months at a time throughout the year enjoying the communities’ rustic appeal on this island. The foot bridge is public property; however, the public access ends within a few feet on the island. Please respect the privacy of these people when exploring the area and searching for the cache.

In addition to the winter’s climate here, the name of the cache comes from the recent movie series starring Tom Selleck. Several of the movie sets and locations were filmed here. In fact there have been numerous movies shot in and around this cove. The cache you’re looking for is a black ammo box. When you get very close to the cache I suggest that little tykes stop searching and rely upon those a little older to recover the bounty.

For the first-to-find, there is a Certificate of Merit as well as a $5.00 Bluenose Coin which can be kept or spent for the face value at most merchants in the Town of Lunenburg until the end of the year. The Bluenose Travel Bug (# 558013) has been launched from here as well.

The dad part of our ‘team’ is a member of the RCMP. He spends a lot of his time and efforts encouraging people not to drink and drive. You may occasionally find promotional items, as gentle reminders, in the cache from various anti-drinking driving efforts. Any time these are located, please feel free take one without any obligation to leave something in return. To start we have placed 5 twenty minute calling cards in cache good for anywhere in Canada. Please remember, plan ahead – don’t drink and drive.

Cheers and Good Luck.
