Another Cape Slit Adventure
We all love a good hike and few areas reward you more at the end
than Cape Split. If you have had the fortune of hiking it in the
past you may have wondered how it would be possible to get down to
the bottom. As it so happens there is a path that leads to a beach
cove that is near the point but please be careful. As you follow
the main path to the end you will come upon a path the leads across
the cape, this is the quickest way to the cache but you could just
go to the end and follow the path that wraps around the end and
follow it back. Eventually you will come to a descent where a rope
has been placed to aid you, please put your gps in your pack and
use this rope for your own safety. You will then come to another
set of ropes that lead down a steep path, this path is also a
stream at times and is usually wet so please again use this rope!
Now you will have made it to the bottom and even at high tide the
cache will be accessible. This beach is often used as a camping
area and unfortunately many of the campers do not use trash out
practices. If you have timed your hike to arrive here at low tide
you could venture down to have a peek at the cape from this vantage
point. Now you may be asking yourself is it possible to hike down
to the end from here? The answer is yes, but even if you time the
tides so you arrive on a falling tide you may have at best 3 hours
or so to make a nearly 1 km hike along slippery large rocks that
more than half of the time are under the ocean! So please for my
piece of mind do not go to the point from here!
The cache is an ammo can with log book and pencil and various
trade items.
