Granite is a common and widely-occurring type of intrusive, felsic,
igneous rock. Granites are usually a white, black or buff color and
are medium to coarse grained, occasionally with some individual
crystals larger than the groundmass forming a rock known as
porphyry. Granites can be pink to dark gray or even black,
depending on their chemistry and mineralogy.
Outcrops of granite tend to form tors, rounded massifs, and
terrains of rounded boulders cropping out of flat, sandy soils.
Granites sometimes occur in circular depressions surrounded by a
range of hills, formed by the metamorphic aureole or hornfels.
Granite is nearly always massive, hard and tough, and it is for
this reason it has gained widespread use as a construction stone. .

This cache is located inside Harford Springs County Park just off
an established equestrian - MTB - Hiking trail that is in the
northern end. Bring lots of water, good hiking shoes, a horse, or
mountain bike. Main parking can be found at the park headquarters.
Small limited roadside parking can be found at the trail head WP
listed below, providing the shortest route to this cache and a
couple others nearby. As in all open areas, watch for snakes. There
is poison oak inside the park along creek areas. I didn't see any
on my direct route in today. This cache has 4x AA batteries inside
for FTF. Not any more room than that. Enjoy your day in the
park!
