Lake Wazeecha is a scenic lake area in Southern Wood County. The
park area is closed from 11-1 to 5-1, but there is an back
road/cul-de-sac where you can park no more than 500 ft north of the
cache. While most people stay on the "beaten path" around the lake,
this cache dares to take you off the main course and to the area
below the dam.
The cache is hidden across a small stream that emerges from
underground, away from the actual dam site. There are a few options
to get across this stream, as there is a concrete structure that
one could jump across, a nature-made bridge, or simply wade across
this approx. 4" deep creek. The foilage may through your GPS off a
bit.
Take your time and explore this seldom seen area. There are a
number of small creeks and pathways to check out that were put in
when Buena Vista Creek was damed.
Two unique features that can be seen in this area are the old
railroad grade that has been turned into part of the walking
trail/snowmobile trail that run around the lake and an old concrete
structure that the underground creek first runs through. It looks
to be an old fish hatchery setup, but everyone I've talked to in
this area has no idea it even exists. Hence the Wazeecha
Mystery.
