Norton Water Tank
Norton, Runcorn, Cheshire

Built during the Victorian era 1881 – 1892
Associated engineers George Frederick Deacon Thomas Hawksley

An amazing sandstone construction one of several water tanks and balancing reservoirs built as part of a massive engineering project to improve water supply between North Wales and Liverpool. Norton Water Tank is one feature of a water supply system that includes the Vyrnwy Dam and aqueduct.

The water tower itself has a capacity of 650,000 gallons, Its sand stone tower stands some 110ft high and can be seen from miles around. It once stood almost alone in the Cheshire countryside but as progress dictates it is now surrounded by various housing estates.

Do take time to admire this building!
