On Sunday, September 24, 2006, I am going to host an event to just
have some fun with my fellow geocachers. I am inviting all to come
out for a little fun and geo-bonding as we play a fun game I have
played before. Come join us if you can! The event starts at 2PM and
runs as long as needed based on the number of committed players.
A long time ago when I was working for another company, we had a
sales meeting in Chicago. We took time out to go play a game called
whirlyball. We had the best time! There is a location here in
Atlanta and I have wanted to play again. The problem is that you
must have 10 people to play. Here is the short version of what it
is.
You play on a court that is like a basketball court. There is a
backboard at each end with a hole in it. The fun part is that you
have modified bumper cars out on the court. You have two teams of 5
people each. You go back and forth using a racket that holds a
whiffle ball. You run around the court in these bumper cars trying
to pass the ball around and throw it through the hole in the
backboard.
Now, they do not want you violently ramming the cars into each
other intentionally. Bumping around is obviously going to happen
and is part of the fun, but gunning it down the court to whack the
fool out of somebody will get you thrown off of the court. All I
can say is that it was a blast and I want to do it again.
The cost to play is $15.00 per player. There is no cost to come
and watch.
I must know if you are coming ahead of time so we can plan on
how we will do this. PLEASE post here if you are going to want to
play, and/or post in this topic in our GGA Forums (sorry, link was
bad and has been fixed). If you just show up without an RSVP, you
might not get to play. I have reserved the court for two hours.
For those who do not want to play but want some good
entertainment, please feel free to come in and heckle, er, I mean
cheer on those of us who are going to play. I am sure we will
provide some good comedy. After the event, I know some of us will
be going out caching as well. If you play, you might be able to
accidentally bounce a whiffle ball off of the back of that evil
cache hider you have been wanting to get back at! He he.
When you get to the coordinates, go in the door and go all the
way to the back and to the right. The do NOT allow you to bring
food or drinks into the facility, so I am going to have them
prepare some snacks and players will get free sodas and/or water.
There is a bar if you want something different (but you will have
to take care of that on your own!). Hope to see you there!
