its a two mile hike from the parking lot to the dam and takes about
1 1/2 hours each way, THE SECOND SWINGING BRIDGE IS A LITTLE MORE
THEN HALF WAY TO THE CACHE, the listed cords are for the top of the
dam, the cache is on an island on the other side of the river ABOVE
the dam, you will need to wade across at the top. the cache is
about 150-200 feet northwest of the big metal barrel with the green
box on top part of the dam you can see it in the photo. I had a
tough time getting a signal, LOOK AT THE PHOTOS. stay on the left
when you see the dam, scramble over to the green metal tower thing,
climb down under it and wade/swim up the stream and cross over
there.
Waihee Valley is a narrow, stream-fed canyon with steep vertical
walls. The trail winds gently through the lush, tropical rain
forest and crosses two long swinging bridges over the Waihee River.
The hike winds up the canyon past bamboo forests, huge banyan trees
and views of narrow waterfalls cascading over the steep canyon
walls. Be aware that flash flooding is possible. If it is raining,
do not hike in this area.
parking is at N 20° 56.483 W 156° 31.481 when I hike in hawaii I
leave my car windows down and doors unlocked so my windows don't
get broken
