The cache is located on the campus of Genesee Community College (GCC) in Batavia. This is a 2-stage multi that should be somewhat easy to most, though it will be what you make of it. The terrain is mostly level and no heavy bushwhacking is required to complete this cache. BYOP.
This cache was originally placed by ElbaPatch in September 2006 and we adopted it in May 2013. We have attempted to retain the 'spirit' of the original cache, though some modifications have been made.
The idea of a two-year college was first put to a public referendum in November of 1965. Once passed, a Board of Trustees was established and the first College campus was the 40,000 square foot building on West Main Street that once housed the Valu Discount Department Store (now known as County Building #2). Anthony T. Zambito of Elba headed the College Board at that time.
On September 27, 1969, ground was broken for a new permanent $11 million home on the current 254-acre site overlooking the New York State Thruway. The roadway was appropriately named College View Drive. In 2004 this road was renamed to honor Assemblyman R. Stephen Hawley who was instrumental in seeing that the College was built. The new site was dedicated on April 16, 1972.
Since that time, GCC has expanded and grown to include six additional campuses throughout the GLOW region and today sets records in student population for both full-time and part-time enrollees. Expansions to the Batavia campus include the Stuart Steiner Theater of the Arts (1991), the Conable Technology Building (2000), the Wolcott J. Humphrey III Student Union (2006), the Med-Tech Building (2010) and the Rosalie ‘Roz’ Steiner Art Gallery (2011).
Please park near the rear of the parking lot and you should not have a problem. Since this is a busy campus, watch out for muggles!
