Trainspotting, more than a cult movie, is a British term for the amateur enjoyment of watching trains. The Sacramento River canyon is a great place to watch, as nearly 24 trains a day pass through.
There are a few caches along the river nearby, but many require hiking or off road driving skills to approach. This small cache is wheelchair accessible, and the paved trail leads to a view of the railroad as it crosses an original bridge built in 1901. I watched a couple of trains pass while we were hiding the cache. The roar of the diesels, squeaking of brakes, and of course the whistle always give me a little boy kind of thrill. Find the cache, then stick around for the show.
Park at the Pollard Flat access picnic area. Fishing and swimming are nearby in season, handicapped parking and restroom are available as well. Exit I-5 at Pollard Flat, and find the road at N40 59.780 W122 24.815. Whoa!! No RVs or long loads recommended. It could be a steep walk back up if you park at the main road, but not too bad or far away for a lot of folks.
Rehide it as you found it, and we might stay muggle free. The original was stolen, and we replaced it with a much smaller cache and relandscaped. Keep it simple. We wanted this one to be accessible for all. Thanks!
