The Collision Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

MadMin: I attempted to contact the owner of The Collision to find out about the status of this cache on May 30, 2010. I have received no response from the owner on the cache page or via email. Because of that I'm afraid I have to archive this cache.

I will be more than happy to review this cache again and (hopefully) reinstate it once you have corrected any issues with the cache. please contact me via ma.reviewer@gmail.com to do so.

Please note that unarchiving a cache page places it through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines currently in effect.
Geocache Description:

This cache is an ammo can placed close to a railbed converted to a walk/bike path. Trail is level and paved with crushed gravel until the last few feet, when the path must be left to find the cache. Parking at N42 23.730 W71 56.489

On August 2, 1932, two Boston & Maine locomotives (both 2-6-0 Moguls) met in Rutland with a disasterous result. Locomotive #1435 was eastbound with rights to Oakdale, while #1365 was westbound with rights from Hudson to Rutland. The dispatcher in Greenfield’s error led to the two freight trains head on collision in Rutland just before 2pm. This cache serves to enlighten those in the area about this tragic event, as the cache is placed at the (approximate) spot where the two engines met. It will also introduce you to this wonderful trail! Sharp eyed cachers can spot these two locomotives engine numbers along with a “Rutland” station sign mounted on a local barn near the center of town. Just look for the granite railroad mile marker by the sidewalk.
