Geocache Description:

Frogner Hovedgård

(GorgonVaktmester cache #10,

English version:

Frogner Hovedgård (Frogner Manor) is a mansion in Skien. It should'nt be mistaken for the more famous Frogner Manor at Frogner in Oslo.

The buildings that are there today was buildt in 1825-30 and in 1840 by Christopher Hansen Blom (died 1879) who also owned the farm Bratsberg. In the beginning he used Frogner for recreational purposes, but the manor was later expanded and used to live in on a regular basis. Frogner manor has a main building, wings and large operating buildings. The main building is said to be influenced by Italian Renaissance architecture.

The garden was laid out in English landscape style. Gårdsanlegget is protected by the Cultural Heritage.

Gjerpen municipality bought the farm in 1914 at the initiative of Gunnar Knudsen. The agricultural property was divided into pieces and sold, while the buildings were used as farming- and domestic science school.

The manor is used in the "Stompa" movies from the 60s, where it is used as the boys' school in the movies.

Today Frogner Manor is owned by "Statsbygg" (the Norwegian gouvernment) and is rented to "Mental Helse Norge" (Mental Health Norway) amongst others.

The houses has a floor area of approx. 4,800 m2 and the property has a total area of approx. 20,400 m2.
