A chance to have breakfast with your fellow geocachers near the
shore of Lake Michigan … then give back to the community by helping
clean-up Port Washington’s hidden treasure, “North Beach”. Enjoy
the community originally known as “the little city of seven hills”,
the location of the first man-made harbor in North America.
Event Date: Saturday, 9/30/2006
Event Times:
- 8am to 9am: Breakfast meet and greet
- 8am to Noon: Seek Temporary Caches
- 10am to Noon: Beach Clean-Up
(Feel free to just join us for breakfast, especially if the
weather is bad ... no "crime" to not help with the clean-up.)
Registration: Please log your “Will Attend” by no later
than Tuesday 9/26/2006. Please indicate how many people and
indicate if you will be attending the breakfast.
Breakfast: At Horsefeather’s Restaurant, located at their
new lake front location at N43 23.394 W87 52.046 (301 E. Pier St.,
Port Washington, WI). Standard breakfast fare ordered off the menu,
prices ranging $4 to $8.
Note: the restaurant moved a few months back, it is
NOT on Grand Ave. any more.
Beach Clean-Up: Meeting location for clean-up will be at
N43 23.640 W87 51.840 which is the southern edge of the beach. You
must approach this location from the south, by following the
walkway between the lake and the water treatment plant. Bags will
be provided at 10am, bring your own gloves. Leashed dogs are
allowed on the beach (but clean up after them).
Temporary Caches: There will be 4 temporary caches, as
the main focus of this event is the socializing and clean-up.
Coordinates will available at the breakfast (8am-9am) and at the
start of the clean-up (10am).
Parking Recommendations: There’s free angle parking at
N43 23.515 W87 52.007 and it’s convenient to both the breakfast and
clean-up locations. Closer street parking is also available, but
limited to 2 hours in many places.
Other Things to do: Port Washington’s annual “Harvest
Festival” is going on that day. So stick around and enjoy the
activities. There are also 40 regular geocaches within a 4 mile
radius of the event.
*** ANY UPDATES *** will be posted here … check back.
9/25/2006 - Event cache locations selected, there will be 4
of them.
9/25/2006 - Don't let bad weather scare you, your welcome to
join us just for the breakfast if you wish.
9/28/2006 - Since the beach area will be "moist" and there
is some clay where much of the garbage is, please wear footwear
that's ok in a bit of mud.
