Lock and lock. The stone walls and bridges in this area were built in 1938 during the Great Depression by men working for the Works Progress Administration, (WPA). Residents swam in the pool between the bridges until flood damage, erosion, sedimentation and fears about contaminated water forced its closure. Use of the part of the park and its upkeep waxed and waned over the next 40 years. The stone bridge area was renovated in the summer and fall of 2000.
